Working Group for the Western Balkans of the European Committee of the Regions visited the University of East Sarajevo

Today, the Rectorate of the University hosted Working Group for the Western Balkans of the European Committee of the Regions headed by Chairman Francois Schausberger.

Schausberger pointed out that the members of this Working Group wanted to visit the University of East Sarajevo in order to get proper information about attitude of young people in BiH toward accession to the European Union.

“We are pleasantly surprised that young people are looking towards to the European Union, that they have no problems at the national level. Also, they are ready to study abroad and integrate with students with different history background what gives positive hopes when it comes to Bosnia and Herzegovina” said Schausberger.

Vice-rector for international cooperation and quality assurance of UES, Professor Doctor Dejan Bokonjić, emphasize that representatives of the University University representatives believe that there is huge room for action in the form of cooperation with local communities.

“The role of the University of East Sarajevo is not only to educate high-quality personnel, but also, to save people from leaving this area, to attract young people and investments,” said Vice-Rector Bokonjic.

Student Vice-Rector Dusan Simanic said that it is a great honor for the students of the UES that the representatives of the Working Group for the Western Balkans of the European Committee of the Regions are guests of the University, and that this visit was a good opportunity to present the University of East Sarajevo.

The European Committee of the Regions is an advisory body representing the assembly of regional and local representatives from the member states of the European Union. In the framework of the European Committee of the Regions, Working Group for the Western Balkans has a goal to encouraging dialogue between local and regional authorities of the EU and their partners from the countries of the Western Balkans.
