The ninth edition of the event “Vojin Komadina Days”, dedicated to the first Dean of the Music Academy and one of the most prolific and influential composers of the regional music scene, was ceremonially opened on 11 December at the Music Academy of the University of East Sarajevo with a concert featuring works by Vojin Komadina.
The Dean of the Music Academy, Prof. M.Sc. Maja Žuža, emphasized that over the course of three evenings the audience will have the opportunity to attend three concerts: a concert of works by Vojin Komadina, a concert by students of the Secondary Music School, and performances by students and professors of the Academy.
This year’s programme, enriched by a fusion of artistic, scientific, and pedagogical creativity, continues the mission of preserving and promoting the legacy of Vojin Komadina and his influence on contemporary musical trends. As part of the event, the Seventh Scientific Conference “The Contemporary and the Traditional in Musical Creativity” is being held, featuring a series of expert lectures, sessions, and presentations of current research.
A total of 28 papers have been submitted to the conference by authors from Russia, the United States, Norway, Moldova, Portugal, Spain, Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Professor Zoran Komadina, son of Vojin Komadina, noted that the concert repertoire includes two compositions by his father whose versions for flute and piano are being presented to the public for the first time, as well as two earlier piano compositions dating from 1966 and 1985.
Pianist Bartolomej Stanković stated that “Vojin Komadina Days” represent one of the central events of the Music Academy and that preserving the works of this composer is of great importance for the culture of the Republic of Srpska.
The Rector of the University of East Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Milan Kulić, emphasized that the Music Academy is one of the pillars of the University and that it continuously contributes to the institution’s international visibility and to the preservation of cultural identity.
“This is the third time this year that we have gathered under the auspices of the Music Academy—following the Accordion Art festival and the World Accordion Cup. This year’s event is dedicated to the man who laid the foundations of the Academy and left an indelible mark on the musical art of the Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and beyond,” Rector Kulić stated.
Recalling that this is the first time the event has been held in the new building of the Rectorate and the Music Academy, Rector Kulić expressed hope that it will be organized in the concert hall as early as next year.
The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Igor Kalabukhov, emphasized that music represents the most dynamic form of art and gives meaning to human life.
He presented plaques of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation to the Dean of the Music Academy, Prof. M.Sc. Maja Žuža, and to the Professor of Solo Singing, Prof. M.Sc. Klaudija Krkotić, in recognition of their contribution to the promotion and preservation of Russian music and culture.
