A new student dormitory building in East Sarajevo was officially opened today. The ribbon was ceremoniously cut by the President of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik, Prime Minister Savo Minić, and the Minister of Scientific and Technological Development and Higher Education Siniša Karan, together with Aleksandar Bjelica, Director of the Student Center.
The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Milan Kulić, Rector of the University of East Sarajevo, Ljubiša Ćosić, Mayor of East Sarajevo, and the heads of the municipalities that make up the city.
President Milorad Dodik emphasized that the newly opened facility is among the most modern student dormitories in the Republic of Srpska and announced that students who regularly pass their exams will be exempt from paying accommodation fees. He highlighted that more than 9 million BAM were invested in the construction of the dormitory, stressing the strategic importance of strengthening the eastern part of the Republic of Srpska and the continued development of the University of East Sarajevo.
Minister Siniša Karan stated that improving conditions for students remains a top priority, as young people are the Republic’s greatest resource. He noted that the Government continuously invests in creating better opportunities to encourage students to stay, contribute to development, and build a prosperous future for Srpska.
The new dormitory is located on Stefan Nemanja Street, next to the Rectorate and the Music Academy buildings.
The facility has a capacity of 224 beds, of which 107 are already occupied. The total investment amounts to 9.3 million BAM. The building includes 90 rooms, a kitchen, canteen, reading room, laundry, student club, and administrative offices of the Lukavica Student Center.
