ETHICS IN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH WORK

Ethical principles in scientific research at the University of East Sarajevo are regulated by the Code of Professional Ethics, which prescribes moral and professional rules of conduct in teaching, artistic, and scientific research work for all members of the academic community (teaching staff, associates, students, administrative staff). In the context of academic integrity, the University has also adopted the Rulebook on the Use of Plagiarism Detection Software, which regulates the manner of using specialized software for the purpose of verifying the originality of works and protecting copyright.

Ethically sound scientific research is based on the proper citation of sources and author contributions, transparent presentation of methods and results, responsible data management, avoidance of conflicts of interest, and compliance with institutional procedures. All researchers shall adhere to ethical standards specific to their field of research, as well as to ethical principles, standards, and best research practices set out in relevant ethical guidelines for researchers adopted at the national or international level.

FAIR Principles

In the event that you are exposed to any form of breach of professional ethics, it is recommended that you first contact the competent persons within your constituent unit (faculty/academy/institute), such as the Head of Department, the Vice Dean, or the Dean/Director, depending on the nature of the case and where possible. If this is not possible or if the issue is not resolved, you may contact the competent University office for advice and guidance regarding the appropriate procedure.

Proceedings in cases of suspected breach of professional ethics are regulated by the Code of Professional Ethics of the University of East Sarajevo. The competent body for such proceedings is the University Ethics Committee, which acts in accordance with the provisions of the Code.
