ACQUISITION OF TITLE AND ENGAGEMENT AT THE FACULTY/ACADEMY/INSTITUTE

ACQUISITION OF TITLE AND ENGAGEMENT AT THE FACULTY/ACADEMY/INSTITUTE

The requirements for the acquisition of associate and teaching titles are defined by the Law on Higher Education, as well as by the Rulebook on the Conditions for Election to Scientific-Teaching, Artistic-Teaching, Teaching and Associate Titles and the Rulebook on Amendments to the Rulebook on the Conditions for Election to Scientific-Teaching, Artistic-Teaching, Teaching, and Associate Titles, adopted by the Ministry of Scientific and Technological Development and Higher Education of the Republic of Srpska. At the University of East Sarajevo, this procedure is further regulated by the Rulebook on the Procedure for the Election of Academic Staff of the University of East Sarajevo and the Rulebook on Amendment to the Rulebook on the Procedure for the Election of Academic Staff of the University of East Sarajevo.

Pursuant to the Law on Higher Education of the Republic of Srpska (Article 4), one of the principles of higher education is the “unity of teaching and scientific-research, or artistic, work.” In accordance with this principle, academic staff shall, in addition to delivering teaching, engage in scientific-research or artistic work.

For questions relating to the rights and obligations arising from employment engagement, it is necessary to contact the Secretary or the management of the faculty/academy/institute. At the level of the University of East Sarajevo, the competent offices are the Legal Affairs Office and the Human Resources and General Affairs Office.

In such situations, you may first consult the Secretary and the management of the faculty/academy/institute, who shall provide explanations regarding the manner of exercising employment-related rights. If the issue is not resolved at that level, you may formally address the competent authority of the University.

The procedure for protection against harassment at work is regulated by the  Law on Protection Against Harassment at Work and the general act of the University, namely the Rulebook on the Procedure for Protection Against Harassment at Work at the University of East Sarajevo. Harassment at work also constitutes one of the more serious breaches of employment obligations, which is sanctioned in accordance with the regulations governing employment relations. The detailed procedure for establishing responsibility for breaches of employment obligations and work discipline is regulated by the Rulebook on Disciplinary Procedure for Establishing Disciplinary Responsibility and the Procedure for Establishing Material Liability of Employees at the University of East Sarajevo.
